Lawmaker seeks more police presence in constituency

A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Nurudeen Solaja-Saka has called on the Federal Government to ensure more police presence in Ibeshe area of Ikorodu to check the incessant killings of innocent residents by unknown assailants.

Solaja-Saka, a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC represents Ikorodu II at the Assembly told newsmen in Lagos that residents were losing their lives to miscreants due to poor policing.

The lawmaker, who recounted the gory tale of a recent murder of a whole family in the area as well as injuries suffered by others, said there was no police station in the emerging community.

According to him, residents of the area need police presence to mount surveillance on the area to forestall further needless loss of lives to miscreants.

“The security threat in Ibeshe is on regular basis, there is hardly any month without innocent people losing their lives and this is as a result of less presence of police.

“We need more police presence in Ibeshe area of Igbogbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Ikorodu to protect the people.

“The place is a developing area of about 100, 000 population and there are lots of incomplete structures abetting the activities of criminals, ritualists and cultists.

“Sincerely, we need a big police station in that place.

We are calling on the governor to come to their aid. People are dying, there are some hoodlums tormenting the people.

“Just last week, some miscreants killed a pregnant woman, her husband and their daughter while some others were injured,” he said.

The lawmaker said that the only police post in the area was located at Nichemtex, stressing that the post was basically put there for the security of workers of the textile industry.

According to him, Ebute Ipakodo Police Station in Ikorodu remains the only police station in the area as large as the community is.

Solaja-Saka, who urged the residents to be security conscious, noted that miscreants were not spirits but reside among the people.

He added, “These miscreants are not spirits, the Community Development Association (CDA) and Community Development Committee (CDC) should wake up and support in the security of the area.

“We cannot continue to lose people and allow our people to live in fear. The traditional rulers and religious leader should do their job also.

“All parents should watch over their children, they should not live everything in the hands of the government. Government cannot do it alone.” The lawmaker, who said that the miscreants were said to be operating using incomplete building, urged Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode to enhance security of the area.

It would be recalled that there had been cases of ritual killings, rape and kidnapping in the community in recent times.

IMMUNITY BILL: A MISPLACED PRIORITY

Certainly, it is not a matter of conjecture to say that the undue interference and unpalatably flagrant disregard to separation of power by the executive tier of government has raised more questions than answers on the integrity of this government and the commitment of the leadership to truly push for the genuine change in line with democratic norms all over the world.   Fatunde Bamidele Samuel (VEGA) writes from lagos. Recently, the society was encapsulated with shocking news of pension bill for the National Assembly members. However, the bill was dead on arrival. This is nothing but another heinous attempt to permanently ground the country that is already suffering from the bloodsucking bedbugs (NASS) and former governors pensions. These are almost sucking the finances of this country dry; if and only if we could act fast to salvage it then we can only hope the existence of Nigeria will not be history. The recent exploit of the National Assembly is evi...
