How Nigeria can achieve EFA target — JABU VC

Vice-Chancellor, Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Ikeji-Arakeji, Osun State, Prof. Sola Fajana has stated that Nigeria was far from achieving Education For All (EFA) as one of the UNESCO’s Sustainable Development Goals to be attained by 2030.

Speaking on the topic “Education as a tool in creating political stability and sustainable development in Africa”, at a programme held in the institution recently, he opined that the literacy rate in Nigeria today is just about 36% compared to some other African countries, or like United Arab Emirate that has 93% literacy rate.

The astute administrator and Human Resource expert stated that the education sector in Nigeria should have a summit where the role and responsibility of stakeholders, regulatory bodies, the professional bodies, as well as the employers would be spelt out for optimum achievable success.

On the use of Information Communication Technology for educational purposes in Africa, Fajana urged the government to invest more on ICT, saying it is not an option but the only choice the nation has to catch up with rest of the world.

Using his university as a case study, the VC stated that the university was trying to create a platform to drive education by using technology.

Conte: Chelsea must learn to kill matches

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte says his side must learn to kill off matches quicker following their 3-2 League Cup win over Bristol Rovers. Michy Batshuayi scored two goals either side of a Victor Moses strike at Stamford Bridge to send the home side into the third round, but they were given a fright when the visitors twice halved a two-goal deficit through Peter Hartley and an Ellis Harrison penalty. The victory is Conte's third in competitive matches as Chelsea boss, following 2-1 wins over West Ham and Watford in the Premier League - both of which came about thanks to late goals from Diego Costa. And the former Italy boss wants his players to become more ruthless in their approach in order to prevent similarly nervy encounters in future. "These games are very tough," he told BBC Radio London Sport. "When you dominate the game, you must kill the game. In this case, we didn't do this. "It's a pity because when you're playing very well, creating a lot...
