Methodist Prelate wants FG to ban food importation

Prelate, Methodist Church of Nigeria, Dr Samuel Emeka, has called on the Federal Government to ban the importation of foreign foods into the country to encourage local food production.
Dr. Samuel Emeka

Emeka, who made the call during the presentation of the communiqué for the 45th/10th Biennial Conference of the Church yesterday in Abuja, said Nigeria had enough food.

The event was to honour capable men and women that are ready to portray and carry out God’s work diligently. He advised government to work hard to diversify the country’s economy by producing instead of foreign intake of foods that might bring about health issues to the citizens.

“I want government to ban foreign foods; we have enough food that will nurture us and make us proper Africans. “I believe it is these foreign foods that cause diabetes, hypertension and other diseases; let us produce our own food and eat.

“Our fathers were close to nature and they lived longer but since we started eating foreign foods, we have been dying prematurely,” he said.

The Prelate also called for the establishment of cattle ranches in the country instead of grazing reserves which he said could still bring about lost of lives.

Conte: Chelsea must learn to kill matches

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte says his side must learn to kill off matches quicker following their 3-2 League Cup win over Bristol Rovers. Michy Batshuayi scored two goals either side of a Victor Moses strike at Stamford Bridge to send the home side into the third round, but they were given a fright when the visitors twice halved a two-goal deficit through Peter Hartley and an Ellis Harrison penalty. The victory is Conte's third in competitive matches as Chelsea boss, following 2-1 wins over West Ham and Watford in the Premier League - both of which came about thanks to late goals from Diego Costa. And the former Italy boss wants his players to become more ruthless in their approach in order to prevent similarly nervy encounters in future. "These games are very tough," he told BBC Radio London Sport. "When you dominate the game, you must kill the game. In this case, we didn't do this. "It's a pity because when you're playing very well, creating a lot...
