Imposition, late arrival of material mar Abia PDP ward, delegate election


Contrary to the promises made by PDP in Abia State of free, fair and transparent ward primary election, late arrival of materials, impositions of candidates yesterday mar the smooth conduct of Councilors and delegates primary elections.

Sunday Mirror which monitored the exercise in three local government areas of Bende, Ohafia, and Isuikwato reports that none of the Local Government Council were able to commence election even as at 4 pm yesterday, as most places visited delegates and aspirants were Particularly and anxiously waiting for the arrival of voting materials.

In Bende, Ohafia, Umuahia and Isuikwato Local Government Areas respectively, prospective delegates and aspirants complained bitterly over attitude of the party (PDP) to disenfranchise them after they have paid huge amounts of money to pick nomination forms.

According to them, it’s sad that after the rigorous routine they passed through to pick forms and subsequently went for screenings yet they don’t know their fate on the primaries holding today, said the delegates.

Speaking, one of the aspirants Mr Okebulu Iruoha from Ebem Oha ward Ohafia LGA said he was disappointed that by 4pm nothing is on ground to show that election will take place, adding that people have been waiting in their various wards yet no presence of electoral materials and officers were on ground.

“The party had earlier assure us of using option A4, we are no longer sure of what we are seeing, imposition of candidates will be resisted and we will protest to the party, thisattitude will make people loose confidence in the party, you cannot say one thing and mean another”.

In Amaiyi Ubulohia ward 17 in Isuikwato LGA one of the three man delegate Chief Jonah Johnson lamented bitterly, how his name was removed from the delegate list of PDP and replaced with another Person’s who has been on suspension. He vowed to resist the injustice.

Adaka Boro came into prominence in 1966 when proclaimed an Independent Niger Delta Peoples’ Republic with a flag and an emergency constitution.
