Execute drug traffickers –Katsina Emir


Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, has called for the execution of suspects found guilty of drug trafficking in the country.

Kabir stated this Monday, when he received the Minister of Defence and his Sports counterpart, Mansir Dan-Ali and Solomon Dalung respectively, at his palace.

He said those engaged in the business of drugs trafficking were enemies of the state that were posing no small degree of danger to the populace.

He said with the level of havoc they were causing, it was justified they be executed when found guilty to save society and serve as deterrence to others.

He said: “I fully support the execution of drugs traffickers. It was the measure taken by the former NDLEA Chairman, Musa Bamaiyi, and it reduced the menace to a great extent.”

The traditional ruler lamented that hard drugs was becoming a serious threat to the survival of many, as same was being used to commit crimes in many parts of the country.

He, therefore, appealed to the Federal Government to look into the issue of drugs trafficking with a view to finding lasting solution to the problem.

He also called on government to fully secure known smuggling routes as such were areas hard drugs were being brought into the country by unscrupulous elements.

On his part, the Minister of Defence, Mansir Dan-Ali said government would establish an Army Forward operating base in the state.

He said the Nigerian Air Force would also establish an airbase in the Daura area as part of measures to ensure security in the state.

Supreme Court doesn’t need 21 justices – CJN

The acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, has said appointing more judges or increasing the number of courtrooms are not the solutions to the problem of delayed justice dispensation in the country. The acting CJN said the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court would  remain congested so long as the number of appeals proceeding there from the high courts was not regulated. Justice Onnoghen also argued that it was erroneous to believe that delay at the Supreme Court was as a result of not having up to 21 Justices prescribed by the constitution. He noted hat even the United States of America, with a higher population, had only nine Supreme Court Justices. Trump ex-aide Paul Manafort 'offered to help Putin'

US President Donald Trump's one-time campaign chairman secretly worked for a Russian billionaire to assist President Vladimir Putin, the Associated Press (AP) news agency reports. Paul Manafort is said to have proposed a strategy to nullify anti-Russian opposition across former Soviet republics a decade ago.
