ISIS leader ‘urges’ Mosul protection


The ISIS group has released an audiotape which it says is from its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, ordering Iraqis to defend the city of Mosul against the Iraqi army.

The recording has not been verified yet but analysts believe it is genuine.

Baghdadi’s whereabouts are unknown. Some officials have said he may be inside Mosul alongside ISIS fighters.

It comes as Iraqi army forces continue their three-front advance on the city, the last ISIS stronghold in the country.

Mosul is where Baghdadi declared a caliphate two years ago.

Iraqi forces have already retaken dozens of villages and towns on the outskirts of the city, with the help of Kurdish Peshmerga forces, Shia Muslim militias and Sunni Arab tribesmen.

Home nations fined by Fifa over poppy displays

England have been fined 45,000 Swiss francs for several breaches of Fifa's rules about displaying political symbols, the sport's governing body have confirmed. The national team wore poppies on black armbands during their match with Scotland, despite being warned not to by Fifa, costing the Football Association just over £35,000. Prior to kick-off, both teams participated in a minute's silence and members of the armed forces lay wreaths. Dalung’s “spended” grammar trends blogosphere

The Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, is in the news again. Again, for the wrong reason! While Nigerians were still grappling with his confession that his ministry didn’t make provisions for the Super Falcons simply because he hadn’t thought they could win, his latest gaffe has to do with grammatical hara-kiri — the sort that could make his child in the Junior Secondary School wonder who is correct between daddy and his teacher!
