I’m 100% ready to stop Algeria, says Akpeyi

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi, has said he is 100% ready for the World Cup qualifying clash against the Desert Foxes of Algeria.

The Chippa United shot stopper was a late call up for the crucial 2018 FIFA World Cup clash against the North Africans on November 12 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The Olympian was omitted in the initial roll calls by Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr, but injury on Wolverhampton Wanderers goal tender, Carl Ikeme, ensured the immediate fall back on the former Heartland and Warri Wolves safe hands.

Akpeyi told supersport, com he considers the late call up as a rare honour and privilege even though he was cocksure he merited the early invitation.

“Of course, I consider it always an honour and privilege to serve my fatherland. I’m happy with the call up as I’m 100% fit and determined to justify my inclusion in the game against the Algerian opponents, Desert Foxes.

“The truth is that I had looked forward to be named in the first list but when it did not come through I kept faith and focus on my club career,” he said.

He added, “I should be arriving Nigeria on Sunday or Monday as the invitation specified to team up with teammates to prepare for the clash against Algeria.

“The match against Algeria is not going to be an easy task given the North Africans pedigree in the land but I’m confident we can always conquer at the end of the day to sustain the momentum after the heroic performance against Zambia in Ndola.

“I strongly believe that Algeria will certainly go the way of Zambia in Uyo on November 12,” said Akpeyi to supersport.com.

Nigeria are at the group’s summit on three points after matchday 1 clash success at Zambia in Ndola while opponents, Algeria have one point same as Cameroun.

IMMUNITY BILL: A MISPLACED PRIORITY

Certainly, it is not a matter of conjecture to say that the undue interference and unpalatably flagrant disregard to separation of power by the executive tier of government has raised more questions than answers on the integrity of this government and the commitment of the leadership to truly push for the genuine change in line with democratic norms all over the world.   Fatunde Bamidele Samuel (VEGA) writes from lagos. Recently, the society was encapsulated with shocking news of pension bill for the National Assembly members. However, the bill was dead on arrival. This is nothing but another heinous attempt to permanently ground the country that is already suffering from the bloodsucking bedbugs (NASS) and former governors pensions. These are almost sucking the finances of this country dry; if and only if we could act fast to salvage it then we can only hope the existence of Nigeria will not be history. The recent exploit of the National Assembly is evi...
