Buhari’s silence fueling herdsmen’s attacks – PFN

Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, Tuesday blamed the rampaging activities of herdsmen across the country on the silence of President Muhammadu Buhari.

A statement by PFN chairman in Enugu State, Rev. (Dr.) Goddy Madu, described the herdsmen as “Boko Haram in disguise and agents of Islamisation.”

He declared that “the recent attack on Attakwu community of Enugu State is what we can no longer condone in any way. It was a deadly and unprovoked attack on a peace loving community and this happened while we are yet to recover from the massacre at Nimbo in Uzo-Uwani Council Area.

“We are not happy over the silence of President Buhari over these attacks.

Buhari
He should make a strong statement to stop these useless and wicked attacks by the herdsmen.

“He is busy sending soldiers after Boko Haram, Niger Delta Avengers and the rest, with the exception of the herdsmen who now terrorise good citizens of Nigeria without recourse.”

Madu, however, called on the various South East communities to initiate steps towards defending themselves, stressing that “you should not fold your hands and watch these wicked herdsmen destroy your villages. You should try to safeguard your lands and farms.

“Our people should be security-conscious and protect their churches and villages from these wicked people who kill and suck blood of innocent citizens of Nigeria.”

Similarly, secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Enugu State chapter, Rev. (Dr.) Jospeh Ajujungwa, has called on the Enugu State House of Assembly and other South East states to immediately enact laws that would put an end to the deadly activities of herdsmen.

“The only way to end this menace is through a law; the House of Assembly should do this as a matter of urgency; Ekiti State has taken the lead in this regards and Enugu has suffered from the activities of herdsmen more than Ekiti State,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State yesterday inaugurated the recently constituted Security Committee in the state, chaired by a high-ranking military veteran, Brigadier-General Fred Eze (rtd) who was also appointed as the special adviser to the governor on security matters.

The development follows renewed attack on some communities in the state by herdsmen.

The committee also comprises members of the Enugu State Executive Council, members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, security agencies, local government council chairmen, representatives of the Fulani, Shuwa Arab and Hausa communities in Enugu State, representatives of cattle market traders, traditional rulers, presidents- general of town unions, neighborhood watch associations, representatives of CAN and student leaders in Enugu State.

Inaugurating the committee at the Executive Council hall of the Government House, Enugu, Governor Ugwuanyi disclosed that the committee is “charged with the responsibility of taking all necessary and lawful measures to ensure security and lasting peace and harmony among various communities and in all corners of the state.”

IMMUNITY BILL: A MISPLACED PRIORITY

Certainly, it is not a matter of conjecture to say that the undue interference and unpalatably flagrant disregard to separation of power by the executive tier of government has raised more questions than answers on the integrity of this government and the commitment of the leadership to truly push for the genuine change in line with democratic norms all over the world.   Fatunde Bamidele Samuel (VEGA) writes from lagos. Recently, the society was encapsulated with shocking news of pension bill for the National Assembly members. However, the bill was dead on arrival. This is nothing but another heinous attempt to permanently ground the country that is already suffering from the bloodsucking bedbugs (NASS) and former governors pensions. These are almost sucking the finances of this country dry; if and only if we could act fast to salvage it then we can only hope the existence of Nigeria will not be history. The recent exploit of the National Assembly is evi...
