4 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE NIGERIAN ARTISTES ON COKE STUDIO 4

Africa’s number one music show, Coke Studio Africa is currently showing on tv. This time, the show features 9 amazing Nigerian artistes who are currently making a huge impact on the nation’s music scene.

Placing them in two categories, the regulars who have featured on previous shows: Flavour, Yemi Alade, Waje, the newcomers (those featuring on the show for the first time), Patoranking, Falz, Kiss Daniel, Cynthia Morgan and Simi are featuring along other talented artists from across Africa to produce 76 beautiful songs on 11 exciting shows.

While the show offers some interesting parts of these artistes' lives, here are 4 things you can also learn about them.

All-round Stars

These artistes are the real deal. They are not the just run-of-the-mill kinds; all of the artists on CS 4 are award-winning musicians; who have won some of the industry’s most contested awards some of which include, Mobo Awards, MTV Africa Music Awards, Nigeria Music Video Awards (NMVA), City People Entertainment Awards, Hip Hop World Awards (The Headies), BET Award, World Music Award, Kora Awards, MTV Europe among several others.

A Crop of Forward-Looking Artists

These ones don’t just follow trends, they place diversity as a major deal to moving ahead. These Nigerian artistes are some of the “realest” in the industry, considering that besides their landslide achievement in the music industry, they are doing even more, by making significant impact in other sectors. For instance, Waje runs a school, 2Face (who is also known as 2Baba) has other businesses like real estate and hospitality, Yemi Alade who is a graduate of the University of Lagos has a fashion label called House of Tangerine, a jewellery collection named Bland2Glam and even recently announced a desire to launch a shoe line. Falz falls into the clothing line category, as he released branded T-shirts, “Ello Bae” and “Marry me” under the Falz edition.

They all have beautiful Love Songs

Love is a beautiful thing, and what better way to enjoy it than through music. Some of the most memorable love songs on the Nigerian music scene are from the Nigerian artists on the line-up for Coke Studio 4. Interestingly, artists like 2Baba and Flavour have also shown that they are not one-song artistes, and have since positioned themselves as living pop legends of Nigeria’s music industry.
Some of the memorable love songs they have released have remained anthems on the lips of many. Starting from 2face’s ever-green “African Queen”, to Flavour’s “Oyi” which is a beautiful song that has since become a wedding anthem, to Patoranking’s “Girlie o”, Waje’s powerful song “I wish”, Falz “Celebrity Girlfriend”, Yemi Alade “Johnny” which gave her, her major break and Simi “Jamb Question” featuring Falz.

Stage Name or Real Name, They’re Cool Like That

Typical to most musicians they go by their stage names, but also have interesting real names. Flavour’s real name is Chinedu Izuchuwku Okoli, Patoranking is Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie, TuBaba is Innocent Idibia, Waje is Aituaje Aina Vivian Ebele Iruobe, Falz is Folarin Falana, Kiss Daniel is Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe, Simi is a shortened version of a longer name: Simisola Bolatito Ogunleye.
In the list of the ones who go by their real names is, Cynthia Morgan, whose full name has an interesting middle one: Cynthia Ikponmwonsa Morgan and Yemi Alade, whose middle name unveils her part-Igbo origin. Yemi Eberechi Alade.

IMMUNITY BILL: A MISPLACED PRIORITY

Certainly, it is not a matter of conjecture to say that the undue interference and unpalatably flagrant disregard to separation of power by the executive tier of government has raised more questions than answers on the integrity of this government and the commitment of the leadership to truly push for the genuine change in line with democratic norms all over the world.   Fatunde Bamidele Samuel (VEGA) writes from lagos. Recently, the society was encapsulated with shocking news of pension bill for the National Assembly members. However, the bill was dead on arrival. This is nothing but another heinous attempt to permanently ground the country that is already suffering from the bloodsucking bedbugs (NASS) and former governors pensions. These are almost sucking the finances of this country dry; if and only if we could act fast to salvage it then we can only hope the existence of Nigeria will not be history. The recent exploit of the National Assembly is evi...
