2019, PDP woes, cause of APC crisis – Dalung

The Minister of Sport and Youth Development, Mr Solomon Dalung, said the seeming crisis in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may not be unconnected with 2019 elections.

Dalung said this on Thursday in Abuja while briefing newsmen after visiting the party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, at the secretariat. According to him, most of the challenges inherited by President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration were also causing unrest.

Signs of cracks in the APC emerged recently when a national leader of the party, Alhaji Bola Tinubu, called for the resignation of national chairman following the outcome of the party’s governorship primary in Ondo state.

The minister pointed out that APC was a party that embodied diverse interests, started out as an amalgamation of different political groups and graduated into a political party that formed a government.

“Now, the management of that interest is very critical, but the challenge the party is facing, and the government, is that the government inherited a situation where it has more challenges of fixing the country. “So nothing or no good attention at all would have trickled down along the line in view of the economic constraints government found itself.

“That is enough to stir bitterness in the party and this can give birth to crisis. “The second perspective you could take a look at has to do with the future, a politician is a very ambition person.

“In everything he does, including the step of movement, he calculates ahead of time. “So, it could also be that some politicians had viewed the future and they are already dusting weapons for a political showdown to set the tune of their political ambition,’’ Dalung said.

He expressed worry about looming crisis in the party and called on the leaders involved to sheath their swords. “There is no reasonable person in government that won’t be worried, because the unity of the party is the unity of the government.

“So we are concerned; our position is to appeal that all those that are involved in the crisis are our leaders and we respect them very much as young people. “What we expect from them is to bequeath durable legacies and I don’t think that crisis is part of what they intend to bequeath to us.

“They should be guided by this fact that the younger ones are interested to learn positively from them. “Everybody should sheath his sword and appreciate the contribution of re-fixing Nigeria and let the future determine.’’ On the recent defection of the former governor of Plateau, Joshua Dariye, from PDP to APC, Dalung said “the action shows that APC has something to offer.

“For us as members of the party, it is a thing of great joy and is an endorsement of our manifesto as the only credible manifesto that can stand the test of time for now in Nigeria.

“So, we welcome his return to the APC family and we wish him the best as we journey together in repositioning Nigeria.’’

The suicide bomber himself was a child aged between 12 and 14, President Recep Tayyip One woman lost four children in the attack, Emine Arhan, said yesterday: “If it wasn’t for my only surviving child, I would have killed myself.” Another victim was a nine-year-old girl who had stayed on at the party to see the bride after her parents had left, according to reports. A disproportionately large number of women and children were killed in the attack because it targeted henna night, a part of the celebration attended mainly by women and children. IMMUNITY BILL: A MISPLACED PRIORITY

Certainly, it is not a matter of conjecture to say that the undue interference and unpalatably flagrant disregard to separation of power by the executive tier of government has raised more questions than answers on the integrity of this government and the commitment of the leadership to truly push for the genuine change in line with democratic norms all over the world.   Fatunde Bamidele Samuel (VEGA) writes from lagos. Recently, the society was encapsulated with shocking news of pension bill for the National Assembly members. However, the bill was dead on arrival. This is nothing but another heinous attempt to permanently ground the country that is already suffering from the bloodsucking bedbugs (NASS) and former governors pensions. These are almost sucking the finances of this country dry; if and only if we could act fast to salvage it then we can only hope the existence of Nigeria will not be history. The recent exploit of the National Assembly is evi...

Breaking News: Paul Manafort Quits Donald Trump’s Campaign After Tumultuous Run

POLITICS Paul Manafort with reporters in a Republican Convention last month Paul Manafort, installed to run  Donald J. Trump ’s operation after the firing of his original campaign manager, handed in his resignation on Friday, signifying the latest tumult to engulf the candidate, whose standing in the polls has steadily dropped since the  Republican Party ’s convention in July. Mr. Manafort left nearly a week after a New York Times report  about problems within the Republican presidential nominee’s campaign helped precipitate a leadership shake-up. His departure reflects repeated efforts to steady a campaign that has been frequently roiled by the unpredictable behavior of its tempestuous first-time candidate. Mr. Manafort was also dogged  by reports about secretive efforts  he made to help the former pro-Russian government in Ukraine, where he has worked on and off over several years. Those news reports were blotting out much of the press coverage of th...
