‘Genuine change must start from the leadership’

President, Mothers’ Union/Women’s Guild, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Mrs Nkasiobi Okoh, has urged the nation’s leadership to take the lead in the government’s ‘Change Begins with Me’ campaign.

Okoh spoke on Saturday in Abuja, when she addressed the 17th Annual Diocesan Women’s Conference. She commended President Muhammadu Buhari for launching the anti-corruption campaign.

Okoh , however , said that true change would come if the government could convince Nigerians to key into it.

According to her, to convince Nigerians of the seriousness of this change, it must genuinely start with the leadership, from the President down to the least person in authority.

Okoh, wife of the primate of the church, explained that a leadership that failed to take responsibility was a failed leadership, adding that leadership by example is the key to success.

Okoh also commended the government for its fight against corruption, urging it to ensure that the fight was all inclusive, without making anyone a sacred cow, including those currently in government.

The wife of the primate recommended that the loot being recovered be visibly utilised for the benefit of the country at large.

She appealed to the government to introduce policies that would fast-track diversification of the economy.

“We are calling on the government to diversify the economy by giving serious attention to solid minerals; agriculture and entrepreneur in order to bring the economy out of recession.

“Government should also consider the suggestions to bring in qualified economic technocrats into the Economic Management Team (EMT) to lead us out of this paralysing recession,” she said.

She said that government has a direct responsibility of providing the right environment for entrepreneurial development as well as providing adequate infrastructure.

Okoh also urged government to urgently address the activities of herdsmen and pipeline vandals as well as unemployment in the country

Conte: Chelsea must learn to kill matches

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte says his side must learn to kill off matches quicker following their 3-2 League Cup win over Bristol Rovers. Michy Batshuayi scored two goals either side of a Victor Moses strike at Stamford Bridge to send the home side into the third round, but they were given a fright when the visitors twice halved a two-goal deficit through Peter Hartley and an Ellis Harrison penalty. The victory is Conte's third in competitive matches as Chelsea boss, following 2-1 wins over West Ham and Watford in the Premier League - both of which came about thanks to late goals from Diego Costa. And the former Italy boss wants his players to become more ruthless in their approach in order to prevent similarly nervy encounters in future. "These games are very tough," he told BBC Radio London Sport. "When you dominate the game, you must kill the game. In this case, we didn't do this. "It's a pity because when you're playing very well, creating a lot...
