AYCF condemns politicians’ gang up against Emefiele

A pan-Northern group, Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF has condemned what it called a gang up by politicians against the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr. Godwin Emefiele.

AYCF in a release signed by its National President, Alhaji Sani Yerima said there is a clear evidence of gangup against the CBN Governor , Godwin Emefiele by some politicians hiding behind the mask of obscure groups and using the media as the stepping-stone.

“For weeks, these opaque groups have launched a massive negative campaign against the renowned banker, with the hope of denting his many years of professional records and turning public opinion against him.

As an organization committed to the promotion of the right values and ethical democratic practice, we hereby state for the records that the ongoing smear campaign launched against the CBN Governor is a deliberate misinformation, designed to mislead the gullible public and set the people against the hardworking staff and management of the apex bank. It is also designed to pressurize His Excellency, President Buhari, who thankfully knows the truth, into taking rash decisions against the CBN Governor, AYCF said.

AYCF said “a band of unpatriotic citizens of this country are working in close collaboration with fifth columnists within the system, to draw back the hands of the clock without regards to the destructive implications of working against the development and progress of a key financial institution such as the CBN saying this ill-wind will blow nobody any good.

“The fringe groups acting the scripts of their uncharitable paymasters should know that Nigerians are today too enlightened to be ridiculed for political gains. They must not forget that despite the fact that our economic problems (oil price fall, lack of infrastructure, insecurity, etc) are not the CBN’s fault, the nation’s economy is already being revived by the brilliant ideas of the CBN governor and his team of economic experts.

“There is no justification for the unwarranted chain of media attacks on public officials who are doing whatever is humanly possible to ensure the national economy is brought out of the woods.

Let these charlatans look beyond their noses and join hands with other patriotic citizens to further sustain the recovery efforts on the national economy”, AYCF further said.

Conte: Chelsea must learn to kill matches

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte says his side must learn to kill off matches quicker following their 3-2 League Cup win over Bristol Rovers. Michy Batshuayi scored two goals either side of a Victor Moses strike at Stamford Bridge to send the home side into the third round, but they were given a fright when the visitors twice halved a two-goal deficit through Peter Hartley and an Ellis Harrison penalty. The victory is Conte's third in competitive matches as Chelsea boss, following 2-1 wins over West Ham and Watford in the Premier League - both of which came about thanks to late goals from Diego Costa. And the former Italy boss wants his players to become more ruthless in their approach in order to prevent similarly nervy encounters in future. "These games are very tough," he told BBC Radio London Sport. "When you dominate the game, you must kill the game. In this case, we didn't do this. "It's a pity because when you're playing very well, creating a lot...
