Pray for return of other Chibok girls, APC chieftain urges Nigerians

Sequel to the release of 21 out of over 200 girls abducted in Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno state in 2014 by members of Boko Haram Sect, Nigerians have been urged to continue to intercede through prayers for the safe return of others still in captive.

A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Osun state, Elder Peter Babalola, who in a statement signed by his media assistant, Busayo Afolabi, copies of which were made available to newsmen in Osogbo, disclosed this and commended the doggedness of Nigerian government in securing the release of the girls.

Babalola noted that the abduction of the girls, which sparked global outrage, marked a sad chapter in the annals of history of the country, and stressed that the development, coupled with reported cases of rights abuse and child labour, has given the country bad image.

According to him, the harrowing experience the abduction caused government and the people, was unquantifiable and called on all stakeholders in the affairs of the country to learn from the errors that led to the abduction of the girls.

“The safe return of the girls is no doubt a plus for President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration and the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC. Not many people were upbeat about possible return of the girls.

“But their safe return is already having a huge positive impact on the image of the country. With many negative reports regarding child rights, the corporate image of the country is being tarnished despite efforts by government to correct the largely untrue notion many countries of the world have about us.

“As the rest of the world eagerly await safe return of the remaining girls, Nigerians must not allow the lessons the disappearance of the girls threw up, but must ensure that measures are put in place to disallow future occurrence of such ugly incident,” Babalola concluded.

Conte: Chelsea must learn to kill matches

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte says his side must learn to kill off matches quicker following their 3-2 League Cup win over Bristol Rovers. Michy Batshuayi scored two goals either side of a Victor Moses strike at Stamford Bridge to send the home side into the third round, but they were given a fright when the visitors twice halved a two-goal deficit through Peter Hartley and an Ellis Harrison penalty. The victory is Conte's third in competitive matches as Chelsea boss, following 2-1 wins over West Ham and Watford in the Premier League - both of which came about thanks to late goals from Diego Costa. And the former Italy boss wants his players to become more ruthless in their approach in order to prevent similarly nervy encounters in future. "These games are very tough," he told BBC Radio London Sport. "When you dominate the game, you must kill the game. In this case, we didn't do this. "It's a pity because when you're playing very well, creating a lot...
