Edo guber: INEC conducted best election — CNPP

Edo state chapter of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP at the weekend described the just concluded September 28 governorship election in the state as the best ever conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC since the exit of Professor Attahiru Jega.

State chairman of CNPP Roy Oribhabor, who spoke at a press briefing in Benin City, said the APC administration provided enabling environment for opposition parties to campaign across the state without intimidation.

He equally commended the efforts of security agencies in ensuring that the election was devoid of killings and assassination unlike what happened in River State in 2105. It however expressed doubt over the credibility of the results from Orhiomwon local government where it noted that some party agents were chased away from some polling units by thugs loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Oribhabor who described the election as peaceful, credible, free and conclusive congratulated Godwin Obaseki for being victorious at the polls. “We took part in the just concluded September 28 polls in Edo State.

Our observers were deployed to different parts of the state we consider as hot spots such as Oredo, Igueben, Orhiomwon, Ovia North East, Estako West, Esan North East and Akoko-Edo local government areas.

“In our history of participating in Nigeria election, we note that part of the issues that usually characterized post-election is the inability of INEC to efficiently dispense with their adhoc staff especially with respect to training and service allowances. We advise INEC to address those issues”, CNPP said.

Conte: Chelsea must learn to kill matches

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte says his side must learn to kill off matches quicker following their 3-2 League Cup win over Bristol Rovers. Michy Batshuayi scored two goals either side of a Victor Moses strike at Stamford Bridge to send the home side into the third round, but they were given a fright when the visitors twice halved a two-goal deficit through Peter Hartley and an Ellis Harrison penalty. The victory is Conte's third in competitive matches as Chelsea boss, following 2-1 wins over West Ham and Watford in the Premier League - both of which came about thanks to late goals from Diego Costa. And the former Italy boss wants his players to become more ruthless in their approach in order to prevent similarly nervy encounters in future. "These games are very tough," he told BBC Radio London Sport. "When you dominate the game, you must kill the game. In this case, we didn't do this. "It's a pity because when you're playing very well, creating a lot...
