Police arrest two AD executive members

A mild drama played out yesterday at the National Working Committee’s meeting of the Alliance for Democracy AD in Abuja as Police disrupted the proceeding and arrested the National Legal Adviser, Barrister Kehinde Aworele and the National Organizing Secretary, Abdallah Ibrahim.

National Chairman of the party, Chief Joseph Avazi had called for an emergency National Working Committee meeting to address party issues.

Trouble started when the National Legal Adviser, Aworele raised a motion that the meeting was illegal as the party’s constitutional procedure to call for a National Working Committee was not followed and that no agenda was attached to the invitation.

He said some people that were invited to the meeting were not members of the NWC and demanded to know in what capacity they were invited to the emergency meeting.

Aworele’s motion was seconded by the National Organizing Secretary, Ibrahim. There was commotion and the National Auditor, Ayodele Ishmail invited the Police on the instruction of the National Chairman, Chief Joseph Avazi.

The Police came and arrested Aworele and Ibrahim. The two members of the executive were still in the Police custody at Police Divisional Headquarters, Lagos Street, Garki 11, Abuja, as at the time of filing in this report.

The party had schedule a National Executive Committee meeting for November 3, 2016, which is usually preceded by a National Working Committee meeting.

Majority NWC members did not see the need for an emergency meeting few days to the scheduled meetings.

AD urges members to remain calm as the matter is being addressed .

Conte: Chelsea must learn to kill matches

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte says his side must learn to kill off matches quicker following their 3-2 League Cup win over Bristol Rovers. Michy Batshuayi scored two goals either side of a Victor Moses strike at Stamford Bridge to send the home side into the third round, but they were given a fright when the visitors twice halved a two-goal deficit through Peter Hartley and an Ellis Harrison penalty. The victory is Conte's third in competitive matches as Chelsea boss, following 2-1 wins over West Ham and Watford in the Premier League - both of which came about thanks to late goals from Diego Costa. And the former Italy boss wants his players to become more ruthless in their approach in order to prevent similarly nervy encounters in future. "These games are very tough," he told BBC Radio London Sport. "When you dominate the game, you must kill the game. In this case, we didn't do this. "It's a pity because when you're playing very well, creating a lot...
