25 years after, Olivet Baptist Oyo alumni lift school

As a response to the call by Oyo State government for public-private partnership in the development of schools, the 1985/1991 set of Olivet Baptist High School, OBHS, Oyo, recently handed over the renovated music studio of the foremost school.

At the event which was used to mark the 25th graduation anniversary of the set, saw old classmates and friends, most of who are doing well in their various professions, exchanging pleasantries after over two decades of seeing one another last.

Commending the efforts of the set, President of OBHS National Old Students’ Association who is now the South-West Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Dr Adekunle Ogunmola explained that the association contributed immensely in ensuring the teachers and students of the school are morally motivated, adding that it would not stop at anything to give it a facelift.

Ogunmola, who was once Provost of the Oyo State College of Education, Oyo, further said that “a lot of knowledge sharing will take place as a result of this project. In some years to come, more students will show interest in music.”

He tasked the alumni to “look beyond structural renovation of buildings, but to compliment government’s efforts by providing palliative care for the teachers”, insisting that “the government alone cannot solve the problem confronting the sector.” Commending the alumni for the gesture, Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Adeniyi Olowofela said, “It is a known fact that all over the world, the business of education has always been a joint collaboration of government and the private sector in order to achieve excellence".

Assuring the alumni of the Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s administration’s commitment to education development in the state, the geophysicist implored other corporate organisations, non-governmental organisations, philanthropists, old students of other schools to emulate the good gesture.

In his address, the alumni Class President, Mr. Folagbade Diran promised that the set would equip the studio with necessary gadget so that the students can make the best use of the facility.

He disclosed that the success recorded was made possible through prudent use of the funds raised by the association.

The secretary of the set, Alhaji Onike Rahaman said he was particularly happy that the handing over of the project turned out as a great reunion for the set after 25 years of separation.

Conte: Chelsea must learn to kill matches

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte says his side must learn to kill off matches quicker following their 3-2 League Cup win over Bristol Rovers. Michy Batshuayi scored two goals either side of a Victor Moses strike at Stamford Bridge to send the home side into the third round, but they were given a fright when the visitors twice halved a two-goal deficit through Peter Hartley and an Ellis Harrison penalty. The victory is Conte's third in competitive matches as Chelsea boss, following 2-1 wins over West Ham and Watford in the Premier League - both of which came about thanks to late goals from Diego Costa. And the former Italy boss wants his players to become more ruthless in their approach in order to prevent similarly nervy encounters in future. "These games are very tough," he told BBC Radio London Sport. "When you dominate the game, you must kill the game. In this case, we didn't do this. "It's a pity because when you're playing very well, creating a lot...
