Alaafin meets Buhari over Boko Haram, N’Delta Avengers, economy

President Muhammadu Buhari Thursday met the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III behind closed-door at the Presidential Villa. Speaking with State House Correspondents after the meeting, Adeyemi said he was at the Villa to rub minds with the President and offer suggestions and advice on issues affecting the country.“As a Nigerian and one of the topmost traditional rulers in the country, over the time, I sent a memorandum to the President which he acknowledged and he asked me to come and endorse those things I have written.
“I think it is time for me to use the proper channel to reach the President for suggestions and advice. “Where he deserves commendation, I should also do that, especially as it concerns the multi-dimensional problems Nigeria is facing; the Avengers and the bombing of oil installations, MEND and Boko Haram insurgency in the North East,” Adeyemi said.

According to him, the recent visit of United States Secretary of State, John Kerry to the country made it clear that the American government was ready to give necessary support to the present government. “One major diplomatic point the President scored recently was the visit of the US Secretary of State, John Kerry. America does not usually send top officers for such visits if they have not used certain parameters to gauge the country’s performance.

“I have met with the President and offered some suggestions. We are losing huge resources to the activities of the Niger Delta Avengers.

Conte: Chelsea must learn to kill matches

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte says his side must learn to kill off matches quicker following their 3-2 League Cup win over Bristol Rovers. Michy Batshuayi scored two goals either side of a Victor Moses strike at Stamford Bridge to send the home side into the third round, but they were given a fright when the visitors twice halved a two-goal deficit through Peter Hartley and an Ellis Harrison penalty. The victory is Conte's third in competitive matches as Chelsea boss, following 2-1 wins over West Ham and Watford in the Premier League - both of which came about thanks to late goals from Diego Costa. And the former Italy boss wants his players to become more ruthless in their approach in order to prevent similarly nervy encounters in future. "These games are very tough," he told BBC Radio London Sport. "When you dominate the game, you must kill the game. In this case, we didn't do this. "It's a pity because when you're playing very well, creating a lot...
