Mimiko’s faction of PDP destroys our campaign materials —AD

The Alliance for Democracy, AD, in Ondo state yesterday raised alarm over the renewed onslaught by the Governor Olusegun Mimiko faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in destroying the billboards, posters and banners of its candidate, Chief Olusola Oke.

The AD state chairman, Seriki Adebobola, said in a statement that it was the height of desperation by agents of a sitting government to descend so low and destroy election campaign posters and banners of an opposition party.

Seriki, however, said the AD members would not dignify them by retaliating despite the obvious provocation.

He said: “We want the whole world to see through their evil plot to get INEC to postpone this election by creating a semblance of insecurity in Ondo state.

“This they have started with series of sponsored mayhem in the guise of protests all over the state, ostensibly showing solidarity with their candidate whose name was replaced from the INEC ballot paper on the order of a court.

“When this failed, they resorted to destroying our billboards, banners and posters shortly after our highly successful flag off which witnessed an unprecedented crowd at the Democracy Park in Akure on Monday.

“Agents of the Mimiko faction of the PDP went out in government vehicles destroying our billboards, banners and posters all over Akure in the full glare of all as if our candidate is contesting on the platform of the PDP or is in anyway responsible for their travails.

“This provocative action, is albeit, uncalled for and the height of political intolerance.

The AD, therefore, enjoined Governor Olusegun Mimiko, as the chief security officer of the state, to immediately call those behind this act to order and put an end to further acts of infraction by his supporters.

Conte: Chelsea must learn to kill matches

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte says his side must learn to kill off matches quicker following their 3-2 League Cup win over Bristol Rovers. Michy Batshuayi scored two goals either side of a Victor Moses strike at Stamford Bridge to send the home side into the third round, but they were given a fright when the visitors twice halved a two-goal deficit through Peter Hartley and an Ellis Harrison penalty. The victory is Conte's third in competitive matches as Chelsea boss, following 2-1 wins over West Ham and Watford in the Premier League - both of which came about thanks to late goals from Diego Costa. And the former Italy boss wants his players to become more ruthless in their approach in order to prevent similarly nervy encounters in future. "These games are very tough," he told BBC Radio London Sport. "When you dominate the game, you must kill the game. In this case, we didn't do this. "It's a pity because when you're playing very well, creating a lot...
