FG launches 4 special anti-corruption postage stamps

Federal Government, yesterday, inaugurated four special anti-corruption postage stamps created by the Nigerian Postal Service, NIPOST, as a way to fight corruption.

Inaugurating the postage stamps at NIPOST Headquarters in Abuja, President Muhammadu Buhari, who was represented by the Secretary to the Federal Government, Mr. Babachir Lawal said that his administration will leave no stone unturned in combating corruption.

Buhari commended the agency for undertaking the task to create more awareness in the anti-corruption crusade by issuing the set of four stamps.

He said: “The Federal Government is conscious of the vital role postage stamps play as powerful public relations tool; government recognises that by the features they bear, they serve as ambassadors for their countries by supplying information about countries’ cultures, histories, fauna, tourism, geography, artifacts and products and the most effective medium of immortalising important national events and monuments.

“We are therefore, prepared to support measures that will bring about a virile and efficient postal system in Nigeria.”

He further challenged the management of NIPOST to be resilient and effective in the delivery of its services and products, so as to key into the present administration’s “Change Agenda.”

Buhari urged Nigerians, corporate organisations and all other critical stakeholders to embrace the use of adhesive/electronic postage stamps as a means of denoting on transactions of N1,000 and above and authentication of document.

The president also enjoined Nigerians to maximise the advantage inherent in the usage of the Four Special Anti-Corruption Postage Stamps with the message “say no to bribe, fraud, bunkering and theft.”

He urged NIPOST to brace up to the challenge and make the postage stamps available all over the country for the message to be better appreciated.

Also speaking, Minister of Communications, Mr. Adebayo Shittu, said the postage stamps will constantly remind the populace of the evils of corruption and the needs to eliminate the scourge.

Shittu said the inauguration of the anti-corruption stamps was apt and a reflection of the zeal of Nigerians to eliminate corrupt practices from the polity.

Shittu said government is fully aware of the need to replicate modernised post offices with commercial orientation to encourage sustainable growth of the postal sector.

He, urged all Nigerians to take advantage of the stamps to make a statement against corruption for a free corrupt nation.

Earlier, Postmaster-General, Mr. Bisi Adegbuyi, said NIPOST would not relent in its efforts to support and project all laudable government projects and programmes.

Adegbuyi added that the aim of issuing the stamps was to carry the fight against corruption to the doorsteps of Nigerians and also deposit its landmark in the annals of global history.

Conte: Chelsea must learn to kill matches

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte says his side must learn to kill off matches quicker following their 3-2 League Cup win over Bristol Rovers. Michy Batshuayi scored two goals either side of a Victor Moses strike at Stamford Bridge to send the home side into the third round, but they were given a fright when the visitors twice halved a two-goal deficit through Peter Hartley and an Ellis Harrison penalty. The victory is Conte's third in competitive matches as Chelsea boss, following 2-1 wins over West Ham and Watford in the Premier League - both of which came about thanks to late goals from Diego Costa. And the former Italy boss wants his players to become more ruthless in their approach in order to prevent similarly nervy encounters in future. "These games are very tough," he told BBC Radio London Sport. "When you dominate the game, you must kill the game. In this case, we didn't do this. "It's a pity because when you're playing very well, creating a lot...
