Jimoh Ibrahim’s recognition by INEC victory for rule of law- Sheriff faction

The Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff-led faction of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the emergence of Mr Jimoh Ibrahim as Ondo state’s governorship candidate for the party as victory for the rule of law.

The faction of the PDP made the observation in a statement signed by its acting National Publicity Secretary,
Mr Bernard Mikko, on Thursday in Abuja.

Mikko also described the recognition of the candidature of Ibrahim by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as victory for Ondo people.

“The INEC recognition of Jimoh Ibrahim is not only victory for the people of Ondo state, but also a victory for the rule of law and diminishing impunity in our electoral system.

“The PDP NWC under the leadership of Sen Ali Modu Sheriff is pleased with this development.

“The party hereby congratulates the people of Ondo state as they go to polls on Nov. 26 to vote PDP and elect Mr Jimoh Ibrahim as their next governor,” Mikko said.

INEC had earlier published the name of Ibrahim as candidate cleared for the PDP and 27 other candidates of political parties contesting the election.

Recall that while Ibrahim’s name was submitted by Sheriff-led faction, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi-led faction also submitted to INEC the name of Mr Eyitayo Jegede as the party’s candidate.

However, pro-Jegede supporters, from the early hours of Friday took to major towns and streets of Ondo to protest the removal of the name of Eyitayo Jegede from INEC’s final list.

While some of them burnt tires on the roads, others chanted solidarity songs in favour of Jegede. Meanwhile, Jegede has called for calm and has said that he would appeal the outcome.

Conte: Chelsea must learn to kill matches

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte says his side must learn to kill off matches quicker following their 3-2 League Cup win over Bristol Rovers. Michy Batshuayi scored two goals either side of a Victor Moses strike at Stamford Bridge to send the home side into the third round, but they were given a fright when the visitors twice halved a two-goal deficit through Peter Hartley and an Ellis Harrison penalty. The victory is Conte's third in competitive matches as Chelsea boss, following 2-1 wins over West Ham and Watford in the Premier League - both of which came about thanks to late goals from Diego Costa. And the former Italy boss wants his players to become more ruthless in their approach in order to prevent similarly nervy encounters in future. "These games are very tough," he told BBC Radio London Sport. "When you dominate the game, you must kill the game. In this case, we didn't do this. "It's a pity because when you're playing very well, creating a lot...
