Minister of sports, Solomom Dalung has assured the Nigerian police that he would hand over the chairman and chief operating officer of the League Management Company (LMC), Shehu Dikko and Salihu Abubakar to them.
The minister made the promise on Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja upon arrival from Zambia with the Super Eagles who picked maximum points against their hosts in a 2018 World Cup qualifier and after police operatives had arrested Dikko for onward journey to Jos to serve a two week sentence handed on him by a Jos high court for contempt.
He made a commitment to the police that he would personally hand over the duo to them and police let Dikko go home.
But not satisfied with the deal struck by the minister with the police, members of the supporters club who had arrived Abuja with the Eagles went berserk and the police had to shoot in the air to disperse the mob.
The police later said they had to allow t Dikko go out of respect for the minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria but vowed to go after him if he fails to produce the LMC officials.
It could be recalled that a Jos high court sentenced Shehu Dikko and Salihu Abubakar to 14 days imprisonment for disobeying a court order to either reinstate Giwa Football Club in the 2015/16 season and go ahead with the league or stop the league and pursue their appeal.
Rather than obey the order, they went ahead and concluded the season without GiwaFC a situation that incurred the wrath of Justice Kunda who sentenced them to 14 days in jail.
Ever since the sentencing both officials have been on the run from arrest until Dikko was apprehended on Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport.
