Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said neither him nor any group of persons can boast of bringing President Muhammadu Buhari to power in 2015.
Obasanjo disclosed this Tuesday in Jalingo when he paid a courtesy call on the Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku after a five day tour of the state to inspect his farm and some key projects he initiated while in government.
He explained that the emergence of President Buhari was a collective decision of Nigerians who voted him massively in the last election, saying no single person or group can claim the glory.
“I was shocked by media reports quoting me as saying I and a few others brought President Buhari to power to save Nigeria.
“I never said that because it is not true. Nigerians voted overwhelmingly for the president and we are all witnesses to that fact. No single person or group can claim that glory,” he said.
On what he has seen during his five days tour of the state, Obasanjo said the state was a blessing to Nigeria, with potential that can turn the fortunes of the country for good.
According to him, the Mambila Hydro Power project alone has the capacity to generate more than half of the power capacity being generated in the country at the moment.
He added that there were great potential in livestock, including cattle rearing in the state that when tapped would turn the fortunes of the country.
“The tea factory is a symbol of national greatness and the tourism potential alone can attract global tourists and earn the nation good foreign exchange, so we must make efforts to develop these potential,” he added.
The former president, who said he spent the better part of his life working for humanity, noted that the visit has further motivated him to do even more for the country now that he was approaching his evening.
Governor Ishaku in his remarks described the former president as one of the greatest assets that Nigeria can boast of, saying his leadership qualities were worthy of emulation by the younger generation of politicians.
